During the developmental stages of the projects the club developed a set of bylaws, an active membership with a governing body consisting of a President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. In ordinance with ATR bylaws monthly meetings were held on the first Saturday of the month with a set agenda for action items, unfinished business, budget review, and new business.
Unfortunately, due to the Covid 19 Pandemic we weren’t able to hold a safety training on a large-scale platform. Current members have educated new riders about education and safety for the sport of snowmobiling. Discussion included wearing adequate clothing, carrying a flashlight and utility tool kit, awareness of unforeseen hazards such as roadways and water ways, communication on the trail system with use of hand signals, proper maintenance of a snowmobile, and proper use protective equipment such as a helmet, eye protection, and ignition tether. We have a location and instructors planned for the future when large gatherings are permitted.
The ATR membership prioritized trails of utmost importance to ensure the safest route of travel. Along these routes prior to our revisions there is adequate visibility of a recreational trail with minimal to no hazards present. Once we delegated trails at various lengths of mileage we erected bridges, DOT reflective trail markers and signage which makes riders aware to stop at major road crossings, where there is a turn up ahead, and to be aware of oncoming riders where the trails narrow. In the event that there shall be an emergency on the trail, our new trail system allows emergency services to respond in a safe accessible manner. Included in our trail system is signage that informs new riders to the availability of gas, food, and lodging.
Work Details were announced and completed for the clearing and grubbing of trees, stumps and uneven soil. Once the designated trails were accessible for our equipment to enter we were able to placard trees, preexisting stakes and markers with the reflectors that we purchased and made. Trail maintenance and upkeep will be a ongoing practice of the club and membership which will be reviewed in the spring and worked on in the fall and throughout the winter.
